Why This Exists
Peru's volunteer search and rescue teams do some of the hardest work in the mountains, often with less gear and training than the terrain demands.
The mountains these teams work in are high, cold, and technical. Access is slow, the weather changes fast, and a search can turn into a rope rescue in a matter of hours. The volunteers who respond already have the skill and the will to go.
What they often don’t have is enough of the right equipment, or regular access to technical training that turns a difficult rescue into a successful one.
The Ian Treger Foundation exists to change that, funding equipment and hands-on training so these teams are ready before someone goes missing.

Trainings
We send search and rescue trainers, mountain guides, doctors, nurses, and technical rescue personnel to Peru to train local teams and volunteers.

New Gear Donations fund essential equipment
ropes, radios, cold weather gear, and medical supplies for search and rescue operations.

Donated Gear Traveling to Peru?
We’re setting up a gear donation drop off point in Cusco for travelers heading home with equipment they no longer need, boots, jackets, headlamps, or anything else still in good shape. More details coming soon.
